Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A municipal drinking water pipeline burst in Howrah’s Ward 8 on Thursday morning, disrupting supply in Wards 8, 7, and 9. The collapse occurred under the pressure of a dumper, leading to an immediate shutdown of water distribution. Underground connections were also affected, requiring extensive repair work to restore normal flow.
The incident triggered a collapse at a nearby dumping ground, where accumulated garbage caved in, blocking the drainage canal. This led to waterlogging in some low-lying areas, impacting movement and essential services. Municipal workers were deployed for urgent repairs, and by evening, water supply was restored while drainage clearance efforts continued.
